I am beginning a new series of blogs on Ifa Orisa Healing Medicine. I’ve had a series of clients who have experienced great healing from this tradition and I’d like to share some of them as well as insights gained from them. Hopefully these stories can serve to heal and inspire about the possibilities for healing as well as inspiration for our own personal struggles.
It is often unnerving when a person receives news of having a life threatening illness. It is often wrought with fear and uncertainty. Suddenly life takes on new meaning and what was taken for granted is no longer assumed. Such was the case for some of my clients who were diagnosed with Cancer. What is remarkable is that, with the support of Ifa, they also received complete healing as well.
One woman was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer. It was late October and she contacted me to determine next steps in terms of what could be done to address the spiritual aspects of what was going on . She also wanted to determine which doctors, which medicines , etc were most supportive for her healing. The very first reading came out and it explained that the root of his issue was one she had with her mother. The woman had a difficult history in that she disagreed with certain choices her mom made when she was younger. She held resentment from them because they affected her. Yet, she was caring for her now elderly mother so she also loved her. The conflict in the household was an issue though. She was advised to in addition to doing the Ebo that she forgive her mother. She was also advised to allow the chemotherapy.

Initially she denied there was an issue, but she did do the Ebo. Yet month after month she would receive a reading and it came back with similar results. The chemotherapy didn’t seem to be helping either and she was going to have to have a mastectomy.
Finally it’s January and her mother had fallen ill and was bed ridden. Her crossing over was eminent. Suddenly, she realized her ill will and how she unfairly blamed her mother for things in her life. With heartfelt regret and grief stricken tears, she forgave her mother and asked for her mothers forgiveness. She accepted and within seconds of saying such, her mother passed away…
At the same time, she had a mastectomy surgery scheduled within a week. She consulted 2 days after her mother passing. It was then that Esu said that she has done what needed to be done, and she could heal now. The doctor called the a couple days later to discuss her preliminary surgery test. The doctor was astonished that the cancer was gone! She would not have to have a mastectomy after all!
It was a heartfelt change and one with great sacrifice that her healing came. But at least her mothers spirit went in peace…and they had peace for both their sakes. It’s been over a year now and the client is thriving and still cancer free.

This was a confirmation to me of several things involved in ultimate healing. One is that the inner work is just as important as the Ebo. Ebo for those unfamiliar are offerings . The Ebo without the inner work can still create issues. Not all priest focus on the inner work when it comes up in a reading. For me, it’s essential. Every Odu has inner work whether we know it or not. After all, we are here to grow and evolve. Our Ori set up life lessons and experiences to facilitate growth before we were born. The problems we encounter once here are often a result in errors of living or life lessons we must learn. Ifa is a problem solver and can offer the solutions to both. While included in Ifa medicine is Ebo, herbal remedies, baths, ritual therapies and other tools, understanding the inner work that must be done as part of those thing is often the difference between a successful outcome or not. Ifa is no magic trick and priests aren’t magicians. Ifa is transformational indigenous medicine and priests guides that help to navigate the healing process. Properly applied, it can bring transformational healing for mind, body, and spirit.
Stay tuned for part 2 of this series where I share how Ifa helped a woman with Lung and Liver cancer. True stories. Real Healing.
